Photography. Poetry. Wonder.
By Mamie Olsen
Stories, photographs, and reflections from the wild places around us and within us.
Life is hard. Connection makes it better.
Art has always been how I make sense of the world.
Through photography, poetry, and storytelling, I explore wonder, resilience, healing, and the beauty that can be found even in life's most difficult seasons.
My hope is simple: that somewhere within these images and words, you find a moment of recognition—a reminder that you are not alone in your journey.
Nature has a way of reflecting back to us.
Explore photographs inspired by wildlife, wild places, small towns, and quiet moments of wonder—reminders that beauty, resilience, and connection can be found both in the world around us and within ourselves.
Through the Lens
From the Journal
Some stories are captured through a lens.
Others ask for words.
Explore original poetry and reflections on healing, grief, resilience, wonder, and the quiet moments that shape who we become.
A lyrical reflection on flight, faith, and finding home within yourself.

You Always Had One
The cage was painful.
But familiar.
Familiarity masqueraded as love.
As home.
As family.
So she remained.
She remained until the cost of staying
outweighed the fear of flight.
Flight is terrifying.
Freedom is not free.
It is paid for in faith,
uncertainty,
risk,
and the willingness to fail.
She did not take flight because she was fearless.
She took flight because a fire within
would not be extinguished.
Because there had to be more than surviving.
More than shrinking.
More than earning.
More than proving.
The cage taught her
to earn her place.
The sky replied:
You always had one.
Meet Mamie
I’m a photographer, writer, storyteller, and lifelong seeker of wonder.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve found my way back to nature.
Houses changed. People changed. Life changed. Yet nature remained—a steady presence amid uncertainty.
When the world felt overwhelming, I retreated to the trails near whatever place I called home. In the hush of the woods, along the shoreline, or beneath a mountain sky, I found something steady. Not because nature stands still, but because its rhythms remind us that change is part of life—and that beauty can emerge even in the hardest seasons.
Some of my earliest memories are rooted in wild places and the people I loved—summer trips through the mountains of North Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina; weekends spent exploring; long drives to Charleston with my cousin, music filling the car and a book open in my hands.
Art, photography, and poetry became extensions of that practice.
Through images and words, I explore wonder, healing, resilience, and the stories that connect us. My hope is that somewhere within this work, you find a moment of recognition—a gentle reminder that you are not alone in your journey.
